Jewelry Care Tips

🌟 Jewelry Care Tips

Madame Charles jewelry is made to live with you: it accompanies you every day, in your busy days as well as in your precious moments.

To keep them beautiful for a long time, here are some simple care and storage tips.

GOLD-PLATED STAINLESS STEEL JEWELRY

💧Water: what you can do... and what you should avoid

Stainless steel is very resistant to water: rain, occasional hand washing, occasional showering.
It does not rust or tarnish under normal use conditions.

👉 However:

- Avoid prolonged baths (pool, sea, spa)
- Avoid saltwater and chlorinated water which can dull the shine over time
- Rinse with clean water if in regular contact with salt, sand or chlorine, then dry thoroughly.

🧴 Chemicals to avoid

Even if it's resistant, steel doesn't really like:

- Perfumes
- Lotions and oils
- Household products
- Excessive hand sanitizer

➡️ The best way: apply perfume & cream before putting on jewelry.

How to clean your stainless steel jewelry

- Clean with a soft microfiber cloth
- For a deeper clean: lukewarm water + mild soap
- Rinse well and dry thoroughly
- Finish with a polishing cloth for a brilliant shine

❌ No abrasive products, no toothpaste, no scrubbing sponges.

BRASS JEWELRY

Brass jewelry has a lighter appearance than steel and requires a little more attention.

💧Water: avoid

- Shower, bath, pool, sea
- Prolonged humidity (bathroom for example)

The gilding can wear off with:

- Repeated friction
- Perspiration
- Cosmetics
- Saltwater or chlorinated water

🧴 Perfume and Cosmetics

⚠️ For brass and gold-plated jewelry: this is very important
Always:

  1. perfumes, creams, hairsprays, etc.
  2. let them dry
  3. only then put on the jewelry

Cleaning brass jewelry

- Use only a soft, dry cloth
- No hot water, no soap, no household products
- To restore shine: use a special gold jewelry polishing cloth

👉 If natural brass develops a patina: some people like this effect, otherwise you can gently rub it with a microfiber cloth.

👜 How to store your jewelry properly

Storage greatly affects their lifespan:

✔ Store jewelry:
- in their original pouch or box
- away from humidity
- away from direct light
- separately to avoid rubbing

❌ Avoid:
- loose storage in a bag
- piled up jewelry that gets tangled
- the bathroom (often too humid)

Tip: remove your jewelry before sports, bedtime, manual labor or cleaning.

Simple habits to make them last:

- put on your jewelry last when getting dressed
- take it off first when getting undressed
- avoid sleeping with it to preserve the gilding
- wipe quickly after sweating or swimming
- alternate wearing your jewelry daily

The steels we use are 304, 304L or 316.

Despite all precautions, natural wear and tear on jewelry is normal over time (micro-scratches, slight loss of shine or wear of the gilding for brass).
This does not mean that your jewelry is defective: it simply lives with you, at the pace of your daily life.
So, if you have any doubt or question, let's talk about it together 💛
